Our commitment in one sentence: No account. No email. No data sold. Ever.
Storm Sensei requires no account, no sign-up, and no email address. Here is everything we collect, and why:
We do NOT collect your name, email address, phone number, IP address, browsing history, or any other personal identifying information. There is no account to create, and nothing above identifies you personally — everything is scoped to your device or your session, not to you.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Storm Sensei. By using the app you represent that you meet this requirement. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data for any purpose other than providing the Storm Sensei service. We do not build profiles. We do not track you across other websites or apps.
A few things worth saying plainly: we will never sell your personal information to anyone, period. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what data we hold about you and opt out of any sale of your data — though since we don't collect personal identifying information or sell data, both of these are largely academic here. We treat all users the same. There is no scenario in which we share personal information with a third party, because we don't collect any to share.
Push notifications are recommended so we can alert you of potential incoming storms or lightning, but they are entirely optional. If you choose to enable them, we store the technical information needed to deliver alerts to your device (a push subscription endpoint and encryption keys). This is standard web push notification infrastructure — your device generates these keys, not us.
You can disable push notifications at any time through your device's notification settings, or by using the in-app "Remove this device" option (see Section 9). When you do, your push notification subscription data is removed from our database.
The app uses your device's GPS to center the weather map and provide location-relevant alerts. This location is processed in your browser and on our server to fetch weather data. If you subscribe to push notifications, your most recent precise location coordinate is stored to enable background alerts — this updates each time you open the app or manually refresh your location, so it reflects where you were last using Storm Sensei, not a fixed point captured once. We use your exact coordinates, not an approximate area, because hyperlocal accuracy is what allows the app to distinguish a storm that's genuinely approaching your specific location from one that's still miles away.
We do not retain a history of past locations — each update overwrites the last, so only your most recent coordinate is ever stored.
Storm Sensei uses the following third-party services to deliver the app. Each has its own privacy policy:
Storm Sensei does not use cookies. We use sessionStorage (a standard browser feature) to store your session token temporarily. This data exists only in your browser for the duration of your session and is automatically cleared when you close the tab.
Push notification subscription data is retained until your subscription expires, becomes inactive, or you remove it via the in-app "Remove this device" option. We periodically purge inactive subscriptions. We do not retain any other personal data, because we do not collect any.
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law. Because we do not collect personal identifying information by default, the practical exposure from any breach of our systems is minimal.
Because Storm Sensei has no accounts and collects no personal identifying information, there is no personal profile to request, correct, or delete. If you want to stop receiving alerts and remove your device's push registration, use the "Remove this device" option in the app (splash screen footer) — this immediately deletes your device's push subscription record from our database.
If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Oregon, Texas, Montana, or any other state with a consumer data privacy law, you have rights including the right to know what personal data we hold (in our case, none tied to your identity) and the right to opt out of the sale of your data (we don't sell data). To ask a question about this policy or exercise any right, contact us at support@stormsens.ai. We will respond within 30 days.
Storm Sensei is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the State of New York, except where superseded by applicable federal law. Any disputes arising under this Policy that are not subject to the arbitration provision in our Terms of Use will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York.
We may update this policy to reflect changes in the service or applicable law. We will update the 'Last updated' date at the top of this page when we do. We will not make material changes that reduce your privacy protections without notice. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
